Leaving Egypt: Finding God in the Wilderness Places by Chuck DeGroat
Leaving Egypt is a narrative map that parallels the journey of the Israelites looking for the Promised Land with the journey of humanity. It highlights our tendency to stay or return to the place life feels familiar. Even when there is plenty of evidence that the familiar life that we want to return to is dysfunctional, it seems less scary than continuing into an obscure, unexplored life. The results? We miss what God has for us. The book encourages us to not turn back but continue in the desert journey because that is where the change occurs. The journey is where we learn to move away from our enslavement (include dysfunction here) toward the life God intends for us.
