What are your areas of expertise?
I consider substance abuse counseling as my primary specialty. However, as a result of dealing with a very diverse population of individuals suffering with substance related issues, I’ve found that I have gained a great deal of experience and confidence in dealing with anxiety, depression and related disorders. Furthermore, I am trained in trauma treatment (i.e. PTSD) and consider this an area of focus as well.
What is your main goal when working with a client?
My main goal when first working with a client is to ensure that the client knows that they are heard, understood and that their healing is of paramount importance to their therapist.
What is your approach and what methods do you employ?
My approach with the client is always one of genuine caring with a desire to match the interventions used with the problems presented. I have found that the client is most successful when they learn to apply the tools and/or processes provided through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and/or Solutions Focused Brief Therapy.
What age group do you most often work with?
I am open to working with all age groups. However, I typically work with individuals ages 15 and up.
Are you passive or active in the session? What can a client typically expect sessions to be like while working with you?
Clients can typically expect that I will be an active participant in the counseling process with a focus on accurately understanding their needs and providing them help to actively engage in and personally own their recovery and/or healing.
What is your background and what are your credentials?
My background includes over 30 years working in corporate settings with responsibilities ranging from junior staff member to executive management roles. I also served nearly 10 years in the armed forces and am quite comfortable working with veterans and/or family members of military personnel. My credentials include a Master degree in Counseling Psychology, Florida state licensure as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), advanced training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy as well as formal training in Solutions Focused Brief Therapy.
What is the reason you decided to get into counseling?
I entered the field of counseling as a result of a spiritual awakening that led me to desire work that would provide long term help and healing to my fellow human beings as they progress along their life’s journey.
